Self- esteem and body image are very important and especially for young people trying to find their way in life and develop their own identity. Research has shown that these are the two main areas that many young people find difficult to deal with and as a result are two of the main causes of eating distress.

The way in which we communicate can have a profound affect on someone’s self- esteem and body image. It is extremely important for us to take a minute and think about how our communication can affect others.

Body- image is a major issue, you just have to open many of the magazines on sale and find articles on super slim celebrities, the latest fad diet and tips on how to lose weight and look good. It is not surprising that many young girls develop low self- esteem and a negative body image surrounded by these pictures of so called “perfectionism”.
